Second Latin American Conference on Learning Objects.
October 22 - 25, Santiago de Chile
During the last years, Internet became the most powerful tool for information searching, selection and organization, being used by teachers and students at all educational levels.Particularly, the learning object technology has appeared as a useful option to create, store and retrieve educational information, enriching the possibilities of the learner as well as the instructor, enabling access to big pools of resources, distributed among repositories in different parts of the world.
There have been, also in the last years, important efforts to develop contents as well as to develop technologies and tools that enable the set of conditions needed to access, re-use, interoperate and preserve them.
Although all those developments, the main issue for Latin American has been the availability of resources. Content in local language is scarce and our institutions cannot take, individually, this costly and long term creation task.
In this scenario, last year, Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), support and development center of ARIADNE (www.ariadne-eu.org), summoned to the first Latin American Conference on Learning Objects, setting as a main goal, to assemble a Latin American Community of Learning Objects. From this meeting in October 2006, the community start working, integrating several institutions, researchers and professors interested in the topic in a space for discussion, research and sharing.LACLO fulfill a need in Latin America for these technologies.Parallel to the community, a Latin American Federation of Learning Object Repositories (FLO) is being formed thanks to the cooperation between several members.
Reached their first goals, LACLO invites you to participate in the second Latin American Conference for Learning Objects (LACLO 2007) to be held from October 22 until October 25, 2007 in Santiago de Chile. The main purpose of this conference is to strength the links between researchers and projects in the region and to open new research and collaboration paths in the field of Learning Objects.
